Perimenopause and menopause can be among the most significant transitions in a woman’s life next to childbirth. While every woman’s experience is unique, fluctuating hormones, changing family roles, career questioning, shifting relationships and a changing sense of self can affect emotional wellbeing.
At LACounselling I offer a warm and confidential space where you can talk and cry openly about what you are experiencing without judgement or the expectation that you simply “get on with it”.
Whether you are in peri-menopause, post menopase or adjusting to life beyond the transition, counselling can help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, reactions and changing sense of self.
Many women and friends tell me they no longer feel like themselves, crying at the drop of a hat, going from 1-60 seconds in anger for the smallest of things and seeing and feeling different about everything and everyone – not to mention the night sweats and 3.00am wakings.
You may recognise some of these experiences.
Anxiety or panic that feels unfamiliar
Low mood or loss of confidence
Feeling overwhelmed by everyday demands
Irritability or emotional sensitivity
Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
Loss of identity or purpose
Changes in relationships and intimacy
Empty nest feelings
Caring for ageing parents while supporting children
Questioning what comes next in life
These changes can be confusing and overwhelming, particularly when life on the outside appears successful while internally everything feels different.
Counselling provides a space to make sense of these feelings and to find ways of coping and reframing that feels right for you. counselling is not about fixing you but about creating the time and space to understand what this stage of life means for you and can bring to you.
Together we can explore:
Managing anxiety and emotional overwhelm
Reconnecting with your confidence and identity
Improving self-compassion and self-care
Navigate changing relationships
Finding meaning and purpose in the next chapter of your life
Working alongside your medial care
Counselling supports your emotional wellbeing during peri-menopause and menopause. It does not replace medical advice or treatment so I would encourage you to discuss symptoms with your GP so that counselling can work alongside any medical care you choose.
